THE
SCRAPBOOK
In
the early 1990s former Parader Vic Garske presented the Detroit
Historical Museum with a large scrapbook of memorabilia from the
Parade of Progress he had worked on back in the 1950s. It was Vic's
hope the the scrapbook would provide future generations with a glimpse
back into a very exciting and historical era in America's development.
Realizing that the scrapbook would be a
great addition to the restored Futurliner exhibit, Vic and fellow
Parader Tom Van Voorhis contacted the Detroit Museum on April 12, 2000
regarding the disposition of the scrapbook. Much to their surprise and
delight, the Registrar informed them that the scrapbook had never been
formally "logged-in" and was legally still theirs. Needless
to say, they quickly retrieved it and presented it to Don Mayton.
We would like to thank Vic and Tom for
this significant contribution to the project. We have used many of the
photos and articles from it in this web site.

This web site contains only a small portion
of the actual scrapbook. Much of the
material is in the form of newspaper clippings from various cities
that the Parade of Progress traveled to. The pages are too large to scan,
much of the copy is redundant and many of the pictures do not reproduce well.
However, we've tried to be selective and provide a representative
glimpse of articles and photographs. |
