By Paul Prinzing --
Futurliner was delivered early in the
afternoon. The weather was very hot and humid, but storms and winds
skirted the area. Things were very slow at the Futurliner as the first
few hours of the event as cars were out and about taking part in a poker
run. Many spectators and hot rodders toured the Futurliner that evening.
Parking lot finally cleared enough after 9 PM for the Futurliner to be
driven to the overnight storage building.

Weather turned
significantly cooler than day before with winds off Muskegon Lake making
it very chilly in the late AM until sun broke out a bit that afternoon.
Futurliner was driven from storage building to show site turning many
heads as it went down the few streets to show site. Again things were
very SLOW the first few hours of operation as not many of the long
haulers had arrived from Indianapolis. As the afternoon progressed more
and more visited the Futurliner taking cockpit tours and asking many
questions of the volunteers.
Had a few interesting guests with interest or connections to
Futurliners. Had young adult who was the great-grandson of one of the
former Paraders who was fascinated as his grandmother had shown him some
small photos of his great-grandfather while working with the Futurliners.
Also had a gentleman that was the neighbor of a man who was in charge of
keeping the "Crossroads" display operational. He was going to try to get
his neighbor to contact us about his involvement. As always many stopped
by who had always heard or seen pictures of Futurliners but never
believed they would be able to climb up into one. Also had a Barber shop
quartet stop by and serenade us with a couple of songs.
The Lakeshore Museum Center provided the crew air conditioned respite
and the power for the event. Unfortunately, too many weren't able to
find Futurliner and some were even told vehicle wasn't in the area. |
