The Futurliner was invited to the 20th Homecoming for Oldsmobile in
Dimondale, Michigan, near Lansing as the feature attraction. The
weather was bright, sunny, warm and clear for most of the day.
There were almost 600 cars and a swap meet at the show. We were
parked in a very nice spot for viewing.
Our show hosts, the R.E. Olds Chapter treated
us very well and were gracious hosts.
There was activity around the Futurliner all day.
Cab tours were busy constantly and we had a great sales day also.
Visitors enjoyed the cab tours and the display with the video.
There were many former and current GM employees who stopped by to
chat. One gentlemen said that his Dad (now deceased) worked at
the Pontiac Truck and Coach facility during the time these vehicles
were built. One family of four drove two hours to see the
Futurliner as a Father's Day present.
Thanks to Howard Sullivan for supplying a
pair of really great sign boards for directing people
to the Futurliner display spot. These are really great and will
be of immense help at larger shows like this. See photo
attached.
After the Homecoming show ended at 3:00 PM, we
trailered the Futurliner to Eaton Rapids for a car show at the Miller
Dairy Farm #1 museum as guests of the Eaton Rapids Historical Society,
the R. E. Olds Chapter and a local donor who contributed funds
for us to be there. We were well recieved and stayed until 8 PM
when weather threatened and we closed and loaded the Futurliner for
the return trip to Grand Rapids. Most of the volunteers chose to
return home after the Homecoming show ended so Fred Hoffman, Gail Snow
and Chuck Snow were the volunteers for the evening show at Eaton
Rapids. They missed a great chicken dinner and really good ice
cream and visiting with some great folks.
Many thank to volunteers Fred Hoffman, Del
Carpenter, Paul Prinzing, Dick and Janet Saddler and Gail Snow for
working so hard to make this show a success. Jerry Bush came by
while visiting the Olds Homecoming show and also came to Eaton Rapids
and was a great help in loading the Futurliner afterwards. Ed
Devries displayed his '38 Olds convertible and Al and Carol Scholten
had a '58 convertible and a '60 convertible at the show.
Many thanks also to our show contacts Doug and
Judy Badgley, Ken and Marsha Nicholas, Ed Clehammer and Tom Baker.
