On May 29, the
Futurliner made a trip from Michigan to visit its future home at the
NATMUS museum in Auburn, Indiana. Before the 26,000 lb. behemoth can
be displayed in what was once the Cord L-29 building, an entry door
needs to be enlarged and the floors need to be reinforced -- not
cheap. The Futurliner was on display to kick off a fund raising
event with notables such as TV personality Dennis Gage and
auctioneer Dean V. Kruse. The evening was attended by a number of
museum
supporters who both donated and purchased an array of items. |
Host of My Classic Car, Dennis Gage, entertained the audience with a
bio of his chance rise to fame by being in the right place at
the right time. From scientist to automotive enthusiast, Mr. Gage has covered a
lot of ground. |
Museum Executive Director, Don Grogg, presents Mr. Gage with a wire
character of himself in appreciation of his visit to the NATMUS museum
fund raising event. |
Enjoying a wonderful dinner before the evening's activities are just
some of the 16 Futurliner volunteers in attendance. |
The steak dinner was followed by a scrumptious dessert table. |
This Edsel was just one of the many cars that were auctioned off by
Dean V. Kruse. |
The NATMUS museum has come a long way since its inception in
1994, both in physical appearance
and quality of displays. This is probably one of those "best kept
secrets". If you are near Auburn, Indiana make sure to make it
one of your stops. You'll be pleasantly surprised. |
