Left side of cab with "skin" removed. Most of the
framework is rusted away and will be cut-out, fabricated and
welded back in.
The procedure is to fabricate, cut part way
through to be able to bend them into right contours, clamp them in
place and tack weld.
Here you can see how the metal is cut part way through, shaped by
bending and then Connie DeJonge, our welder, welds the cuts shut
again.
As Connie welds, Bud grinds off the the high spots.
Connie waits for Bud to get a piece aligned properly before
welding it in place.
Connie is removing some of the rusted metal for replacement. The
rust was so extensive here that temporary braces had to be welded
in place to hold the top of the cab in place.
This shot of Bud working on the outside shows the extent of the
rust damage yet to be tackled. If anybody wanted to gain
experience working with metal and welding, this is the place to do
it!
