Zeeland, Michigan -- Kicking off a Saturday old car show in downtown
Zeeland the Futurliner took part in a mini Parade of Progress parade
on Friday evening. Complete with a vintage motorcycle cop (driven by
Jim Work on a 1951 Harley Davison) clearing
the parade route and an antique Michigan State Police cruiser
(driven by Scott Seida in a 1937 Ford) leading the way the, small parade captured the nostalgia of an era
gone by. |
The original GM Parade of progress was usually led by a string of
new GM cars painted red and white. We managed to come up with a
variety -- enough to make it interesting. The Parade was filmed and
will be incorporated into another clip about the Futurliner's
history. |
It's one thing to see the behemoth sitting in a parking lot on
display but quite another to see and hear it traveling down the
road. |
The Futurliner was no more than parked, where it would sit overnight
until the Saturday show, when throngs of people began to gather
around to admire it. |
While the Futurliner wasn't open for display on Friday evening, it
didn't stop people from getting up close to it. A few volunteers
were very busy answering questions. |
Pictured are Sandy and Katy dressed in period clothing pushing
Xavier around in a 1950's blue Taylor Tot stroller. The stroller was
donated by Howard Sullivan because it is identical to the one
in the poster we sell. |
It's interesting to note that in these two pictures of the young
ladies, Xavier can't seem to take his eyes off the big red
Futurliner and look at the camera. My guess is that he will grow up
loving to look at and work on old cars. |
