DISAPPEARING STEERING WHEEL
As previously reported Bruce Berghoff had a steering wheel cast for us as a donation to this project. In our high tech computer inventory system we store all of our restored parts on storage shelves. We also store all the old parts and nothing is thrown away until the new replaced or restored part is permanently installed. Also, as our volunteers root around for their parts things get misplaced occasionally.
Wally is fast approaching completing the wiring and with the windshield already installed it was time to fit the new steering wheel. After I had looked for over a month for the steering wheel and not found it I just figured I was looking past it. Today I asked if someone would be willing to find the steering wheel. Stan volunteered.
After Stan spent three hours, including help from others he came up dry. (So much for our computerized system.)
At the end of the work session and everyone was gone except Mike, Jim and myself we were again asking what happened to the steering wheel. All of a sudden Jim walked back into the barn where my cars, car parts, and Futurliner parts are stored and in 90 seconds returned with the MIA steering wheel.
REAPPEARING STEERING WHEEL
Mike, Jim and I decided not to tell anyone about the reappearing steering wheel and do something special the next day at lunch. There is a large group of old car enthusiasts and Futurliner volunteers that meets every Wednesday for lunch. Mike had arranged with the waitress to deliver the steering wheel disguised as a plate carrying hors d' oeuvres . It took a few minutes for those at lunch to discover the prank but everyone had a great laugh.
